October 8 - 10 is Scranton Running Company's Grand Opening Weekend!
We couldn't think of a more appropriate time to schedule such an important weekend. In conjunction with the Steamtown Marathon's 15th annual running, the following is a schedule of store and marathon-related events from Friday through Sunday:
Friday, October 8

2pm - 4pm: Rock 107's Tommy and Duffy will be broadcasting live from the store at the Ice Box Sports Complex!
-
Duffy will be lacing them up and stepping onto the treadmill for a great cause: he will attempt to cover as much ground as possible in an effort to raise money for Scranton's Saint Joseph's Center.
-
The station will be soliciting and collecting pledges as Duffy walks, runs, somersaults and crawls his way through the two hour timeframe.
-
The Scranton Running Company will be donating 10% of our sales proceeds from the entire day to Saint Joseph's Center.
-
Come into the store during the live broadcast and receive a free coffee courtesy of Sacred Grounds.
Saturday, October 9
9:55am: Join two-time Steamtown Marathon winner and Scranton Running Company Co-Founder, Matt Byrne and Marathon Race Director, Bill King, for an easy 3mi pre-race run. Meet across the street from our store at the main entrance of Scranton High School (the Expo site) at 9:55 a.m. sharp. The run will take you past the finish line and through the Steamtown National Historic Site.
1pm - 5pm: Visit with noted author/editor (Quotable Runner, Run for the Diamonds), Runner's World contributor and running coach, Mark Will-Weber. He'll be hanging out at our store signing books and discussing the sport for most of the day. We couldn't be happier to have him with us for the day.
2pm: Scranton Running Co. Co-Founder, Matt Byrne, takes the stage at the official Marathon Expo with Race Director Bill King, another former winner and Runner's World's Kathleen Jobes, and Northereast Rehab's Matt Scalese for a roundtable discussion with the audience.
5pm: Come join Coach Jason Kilderry, owner of ETA Coach, as he discusses running technique and training. Coach Jason's background is in Exercise Physiology and specializes in an evidence-based coaching approach, which is backed by scientific principles. As part of a larger discussion on running technique and training, Coach Jason will be discussing specifics on race strategy for this year's Steamtown Marathon.
In addition to these exciting events on Saturday's schedule, we'll have a representative of Oiselle in the store showing off their wears. We couldn't be happier that this up and coming designer of women's running apparel has committed to spending the day with us. Stop by for giveaways!
Sunday, October 10
9am - 2pm: Homestretch Hill Brigade!

A la the Wellesley Scream Tunnel of Boston Marathon fame, we've formed the Homestretch Hill Brigade. The Scranton Running Company is leading the charge to arrange for no less than loosely organized pandemonium up the course's final climb after Mile 25. We've enlisted area rockers, Kock 107, to assist us in cranking up the decibel level. Cowbells may also be involved.
Marathon runners figuratively see red at this point in the race, but we plan on them literally seeing red as well. Put in a shift as a human noisemaker with us at the party on Homestretch Hill and you'll be given a great tee shirt emblazoned with the cool new Homestretch Hill logo, in addition to 15% off all purchases at the store over Marathon weekend, plus any other giveaways we can wrangle up that day.
Our goal is a 100 member strong Brigade, which we're already well on the way to achieving. Call (570-955-0921), email (info@scrantonrunning.com) or stop by the store in person to sign up to be a founding member of what is sure to become one of the race weekend's great traditions. Let's get loose!
